Cinema Check this out in Brussels. The offer of film is great in Brussels, because of the diversity in cinemas, the choice of movies, the cheap prices and the mega complex Kinepolis. Belgium has two languages, so when you go to a cinema you have to check if the movie is original and if it contains subtitles. Most films in the cinemas are shown in original version and have subtitles in both Dutch as France. Some movies are dubbed in France.
OV or VO means that it's original with subtitles in Dutch and French VF means French spoken NV means Dutch spoken OV FR = original version but only French subtitle OV NL = original version but only Dutch subtitle VF NL = French version and Dutch subtitles Kinepolis At Kinepolis usually you can choose from about 24 movies each time they show the movies and all movies are original version. There are 7.584 seats, 29 screens and until 1998 it was the biggest cinema complex over the world. Kinepolis is located at Bruparck and is definitely the best cinema in Brussels as regards conformability and choice. If you are a bit tall you will have enough space for your legs, because normally it’s about 90 centimetres and at Kinepolis 1 meter and 40 centimetres. Because of the high standards of quality at Kinepolis also the quality of other cinema’s in Brussels improved. Prices are between € 6, - and € 8,-. Cinemas In the centre of Brussels there are a few cinemas like the two UGC cinemas at Place de Brouckère and “Galerie de la Toison d'Or et Avenue de la Toison d'Or / Gulden Vlies gallerij.” Furthermore there are a lot of cinemas who show “non-commercial” movies like European and some Asian movies. The cinemas below are recommended……..
• Arenberg, at Galerie de la Reine 26/ Koninginnegalerij Located at the Sint-Hubertusgalerij.
• Nova, at Rue d'Arenberg 3 / Arenbergstraat. This undergroundcinema is a one screen cinema who is giving answer to the lack of accessibility to alternative, unconventional and challenging approaches in Cinema. It’s more then film, because of their cultural program with art, music etc.
• Vendôme, at Waversesteenweg, 18 / Chée de Wavre at the upper-town. This cinema is French so ask if they have subtitles or original versions if you only know the sentence “Je ne parle pas france!”
• Actor’s Studio, at Petite Rue des Bouchers 16 / Korte Beenhouwersstraat. This small cinema has three screens and shows a lot of good movies who are not well know. They can surprise you! They showed “Festen” from Dogmadirector Thomas Vinterberg for two years and I must say the movie deserves this.
• Aventure, at Galerie du Centre 57 / Centrumgalerij. This old inferior cinema offers you a very surprising programming which makes it interesting.
• Movy-club, at Rue des Moines 21 / Monnikenstraat. This traditional neighbourhood cinema was built in the early 1930’s and remained virtually unchanged since. It gives you a view of the atmosphere of an old district cinema as they had a lot of before television. It’s intimate and shows Art Déco and modernism from the 30’s. Surprising programming.
• (Day and) night program Le Styx, Rue de l'Arbre béni 72 / Gewijdeboomstraat. This cinema is the smallest one in Brussels and after a refurbishment it contains all the modern equipment needed to provide the perfect conditions. The movies are mostly from the range "art and experimental" films. Special about this cinema are the night movies.
Film museum Brussels has his own filmmuseum at the Palais des Beaux-Arts / Rue Baron Horta 9 / Baron Hortastraat. It’s very cheap, because you can watch movies every day for € 2,- and it contains an archive with more then 41.000 titles. There’s also a room with a silent movie accompanied by a pianist.
